What it means
Receiving mail services decide whether a message is genuine partly from your domain's DNS. Three TXT records do most of the work:
| Record | What it says |
|---|---|
| SPF | Which servers may send mail for your domain. It starts with v=spf1. |
| DKIM | A key that lets receivers check each message's signature. It sits on a name ending in ._domainkey. |
| DMARC | What receivers should do with mail that fails those checks. It sits on _dmarc, and starts with v=DMARC1. |
If they are missing, list the wrong server, or there are two SPF records, more of your mail is treated as spam.
Check this first
- Make sure you send through the server on Email → Connect Devices, signed in with the full email address and its password. Mail sent from your address through another service (for example your home internet provider's server) does not match your records.
- Open Advanced → Track DNS, enter your domain, choose
TXTin Record and click Look Up. Look for one record starting withv=spf1. - Look up
_dmarc.followed by your domain the same way.
Fix it
Your email is on Zeyo Host Mail
- Open Email → Email Domains and click DNS records on the domain.
- The list shows every record your email needs, including the ones marked (recommended), with their State.
- Fix each record that is not ✓ Found: add it, or change it to the value shown. If the domain's DNS is in this panel, Add them to my DNS zone here does it for you, after you confirm with Change my DNS zone.
- Click Check now.
See Email Domains.
Your email is on your hosting server
If your domain uses our name servers, open the domain in the Zone Editor and look at its TXT records. If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, check the records there.
- SPF: keep a single TXT record starting with
v=spf1. If you also send through another service (a newsletter tool, for example), add that service to the same record rather than creating a second one. - DKIM and DMARC: if there are none and you are not sure what values to use, write to [email protected] with your domain name.
Records are right, mail still goes to spam
- Check the content: messages with only a link or an image, or sent to many people at once, are more often filtered.
- If you recently moved, DNS changes can take a while to spread. Check again with Track DNS later.
- Ask the recipient to mark your message as not spam, which teaches their mail service.
